Nose Tip Aesthetics (Tipplasty)

Tipplasty is the correction made only on the cartilage at the tip of the nose without touching the middle cartilage structure that divides the nose into two, the bone structure that forms the nose back and sides. In this way, thick, saggy, long, high, narrow or wide nose tips can be reshaped. Nose wings can be narrowed. It is a procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia. It is a one-hour surgery where the angle of the nose with the lip can be changed, the tip of the nose can be lifted and thinned, without causing breathing problems. If necessary, tampons can be placed and plaster can be made at the end of the operation. It is also possible to do without tampons and plaster.

When should I have tipplasty?

The notable part of the nose is the tip of the nose, and this area is also very aesthetically important. It consists of the top joints of cartilage in the shape of two “n” letters making the nose wings. It has many different types and also has characteristics among races. Its height, width and angles are very important. The skin of this region has the thickest skin structure on the nose.

While the skin is the thinnest in the root of the nose, it becomes thicker as it reaches the tip of the nose and the number and density of the intradermal glands increase. It is possible to correct only this area surgically, but a good planning should be done before the surgery so that the rest of the patient’s nose can adapt to the result to be achieved. Not every patient may be an appropriate candidate for nasal aesthetics, so the patient should discuss this with his doctor in great detail. It is not always true that a patient with a arched nose wants nose tip aesthetics. Generally, the right candidates are patients in which other aesthetic units of the nose are without problems.

When I can go back to normal life after tipplasty?

It usually takes 3 months for the targeted result to be completely reached after tipplasty. In this period, especially skin thickness plays an important role. In patients with thick nasal skin or in patients who have undergone a surgical intervention in the past, the recovery period of the skin can take between 3 months and a year. In this surgery, there is much less bruising and swelling compared to standard Rhinoplasty (aesthetic nose surgery) operation, and after this procedure, the return to normal life is quite short and usually there is no pain.

You can be discharged after being hospitalized for 1 night after nose surgery, and you can apply the treatment methods recommended by your doctor during the healing process.

What should I consider before the operation?

Oral intake of food or water should be stopped until at least 8 hours before the surgery. If there is any medication used (such as blood thinners, blood pressure or diabetes), you should inform your doctor. Even any food supplements, teas containing vitamins or herbal ingredients should be discontinued 1 week before surgery.

Will there be tampons in the nose after the operation?

Nasal pad can be placed for a few days after septoplasty operations. Today, however, these tampons are made with soft and easy-to-remove properties. In fact, plastic, new generation bumpers with holes that will allow to breathe through the nose or self-melting are used frequently.

What awaits me after the operation?

●Oral feeding is not started for an average of 3-5 hours after general anesthesia.
● If you have a tampon in your nose after surgery, you may need to breathe through your mouth for a while.
● Although not very severe, you may have a small amount of pain, in this case, you can use painkillers recommended by your doctor.
● Feeding with warm and liquid foods is recommended on the first day after anesthesia, but there are no food restrictions frequently in the next period.
● During the healing process, it is recommended to sleep with a high pillow and on your back.
● There may be crusts in the nose due to leaks and operation. Your doctor will recommend nose wash solutions (ocean waters) for this.
● In the first few days of the operation, congestion may develop due to edema in the nose.
● When you need to sneeze, you can sneeze by keeping your mouth open.
● It is necessary to avoid intense and heavy exercises for the first 6 weeks.

When can I go back to school / work / normal life?

Recovery time varies personally. The average recovery time is between 1-4 weeks, but often patients can return to their normal lives after the third day of surgery and do their own work.
